Mid Ulster Launches Three-Year Health and Community Programme Under PEACEPLUS
Mid Ulster District Council has launched the Nourish & Connect programme across its area. Network Personnel delivers the three-year initiative. It targets health improvement, food inequality reduction, and community connections.
The programme offers cooking sessions, nutrition education, and budget meal preparation skills. It includes stress management, gentle exercise, and links to local food producers. Sustainable practices feature in the activities.
At least 225 participants will join locally run sessions. The project builds confidence, life skills, and community bonds.
Funding comes from Mid Ulster District Council's 5.2 million euro PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan. The Special EU Programmes Body manages PEACEPLUS support.
Alex McKee, Operations Manager at Network Personnel, stated the programme supports food skills, health, wellbeing, and community ties over three years. Rosemary Hunter, Project Co-ordinator, described it as a space for learning, sharing, and growth.
Councillor John McNamee, Chairperson of the Mid Ulster PEACEPLUS Partnership, called it an example of PEACEPLUS delivering community benefits through food equality, health promotion, and connections. Deputy Chair Councillor Denise Johnston noted its role in partnerships tackling social issues via nutrition and engagement.
The initiative is one of nine PEACEPLUS projects in Mid Ulster. They align with themes of thriving communities, cultural respect, and local regeneration.
