New support programme targets financial hardship in Mid Ulster
A three-year support programme will provide financial advice and skills training to low-income families in the Mid Ulster District Council area.
The project, named Mid Ulster Advice Plus, is led by the South Tyrone Empowerment Programme and forms part of the council's €5.2 million Local Community PEACEPLUS Action Plan.
Activities will include financial literacy workshops, one-to-one advice clinics, community outreach sessions and digital skills programmes.
The initiative will focus on deprived urban and rural areas and offer benefit entitlement checks to help maximise household income.
It is supported by the PEACEPLUS Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
The programme launched on 30 March 2026 and is one of nine projects in the area under the themes of thriving communities and local regeneration.
Councillor Denise Johnston said the scheme provides practical support to help families facing financial challenges build stronger communities.
Councillor John McNamee said the project promotes inclusion and delivers lasting change across the district.
Fintan McAliskey said the investment gives families tools to manage finances and improve wellbeing through partnership work.
