A Belfast man accused of exploiting a vulnerable woman through drugs and prostitution has been released on bail. Thomas Crossey, 56, of Henderson Avenue, faces charges including controlling prostitution for gain, human trafficking, and causing someone to engage in sexual activity.

The allegations cover a period starting in 2021. Police began their investigation in October 2023. The main complainant, a 22-year-old woman with addictions to cocaine and heroin, stated she met Crossey and was taken to his flat by taxis. There, she received drugs in exchange for sex, sometimes staying for days.

Crown counsel outlined that Crossey arranged for 20 to 25 men to visit the flat and pay him 100 to 150 pounds each for sex with the woman. Phone messages showed explicit content, references to her as a nurse who injected him with substances, and plans involving outfits and various activities two or three times a month.

Additional charges against Crossey include false imprisonment and common assault. Police found 11 phones, women's items like nail polish and bank cards in other names, plus a knife and hammer hidden in the flat.

Prosecutors noted at least two other women visited the flat for similar reasons. Crossey denied all allegations in interviews and claimed the woman stole from him.

Judge Gordon Kerr KC granted bail due to expected nine-month delays in finalizing charges after five months in custody. Conditions include a curfew, no social media access, a 2,000-pound surety, and no contact with witnesses, especially the complainant.
