Santander plans to close its Banbridge branch on Newry Street and Newry branch on Hill Street next month. The Banbridge site shuts to the public on May 19. The Newry location ends in-person service on May 21.

Armagh I revealed in January the Banbridge closure as part of 44 UK-wide branch shutdowns. The bank disclosed the moves in March 2025, affecting over 750 jobs across the UK.

Initially local closures targeted Armagh, Portadown, and Dungannon branches. Banbridge and Newry followed, leaving only the Lurgan branch on Market Street open.

The bank stated it will adjust its network with 18 counter-free branches, 36 reduced-hours branches, 290 full-service branches, and five Work Cafes.

Councillor Joy Ferguson advised Newry customers on alternatives after closure. She noted a Santander Community Banker will attend Wallace Suites in Church Square, Banbridge, every Thursday from May 21, 2026, between 9.30am and 5pm.

Ferguson pointed to cash access at Danske and Ulster Bank ATMs on Bridge Street and Walsh’s Newsagents on Scarva Street during retail hours. She added that mobile, online, and telephone banking remain available, along with account management at ATMs, Post Offices, or the local banking hub.
