A 29-year-old man from Letterkenny breached bail conditions by entering Derry city. Patrick Sweeney faces charges related to domestic incidents including non-fatal strangulation and criminal damage. On April 8 police responded to a report of two males fighting in Foyle Street.

Officers identified Sweeney at the scene with facial injuries. A check of his bail records showed a prohibition on entering the city. His defence solicitor noted this as his first breach since November and requested release with a warning.

District Judge released Sweeney on bail for a further appearance on April 23. In a separate case the same day Eoin Nolan, 36, with no fixed abode faced 12 charges from April 7. These included threatening behaviour, possession of an axe and knife, criminal damage to property, threats to kill and dangerous driving at Altcar Park in Galliagh.

Police described Nolan's actions as a prolonged attack on his former partner's house where three children lived. He arrived with weapons, damaged a door and window, then drove his car repeatedly at the front wall, creating a large hole and making the structure unsafe.

Nolan made threats to police during the incident. Bail was refused due to risks of reoffending, witness interference and danger to himself, family and public. His defence solicitor cited mental health issues and recent time in a Republic of Ireland facility.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan ruled Nolan dangerous to himself and remanded him in custody. He will appear again on April 30.
