A 33-year-old man has been denied bail at Enniskillen Magistrates Court after appearing on charges of domestic abuse and assault.

Gareth Parker, of Rosnarick Close, Derrygonnelly, faces an allegation that he engaged in domestic abuse between September 2022 and March 2026. He is also charged with making threats to kill, using threatening and abusive behaviour on 6 March, and an assault in October 2024.

A detective constable objected to bail, telling the court that the defendant was likely to re-offend. The constable said Parker had 122 previous convictions, including 35 for assault, and had previous charges for threats to kill. He also had convictions for threatening to damage property and possessing an offensive weapon. The officer said Parker was assessed as high risk and had been subject to a Non-Molestation Order since February 2026.

The court heard that the injured party had repeatedly said she was afraid of the defendant, and that allegations of domestic abuse were progressing through the courts. The constable said the defendant had harassed and threatened to kill the complainant, and that police held evidence of threatening phone calls, even though the injured party denied they had been made. The officer stated there was a high risk of future harassment and intimidation, and that the injured party was at serious risk of harm.

The defendant had given an address around eight miles from Enniskillen, where the injured party was living. She had recently moved, but the constable said there was little to stop the defendant finding her new address. The officer added that Parker had previously breached three court orders, a suspended jail sentence, and an arrest warrant in 2020.

A defence barrister said the defendant had first contacted police when the injured party arrived at his home with two men and a bottle was thrown at his house. The constable said the injured party had come to collect belongings and, a few hours later, the defendant threatened to murder her. Police observed broken glass outside the defendant's home, but the officer said that was part of a separate investigation and the injured party was not a suspect. The barrister stated that the defendant's instructions were that the injured party had been contacting him.

The barrister said the defendant had been in custody since 24 March, which was equivalent to a ten-month jail sentence. The barrister asked for bail with stringent conditions.

The court was also told that the injured party had made a withdrawal statement on 17 July, and that the matter was awaiting a direction from the Public Prosecution Service.

District Judge Barney McElholm refused bail, citing the strong possibility of further harassment, the proximity of the proposed address to the injured party, and a high likelihood of re-offending. The case was adjourned for review on 7 September.
