Barry Bannon, a 35-year-old from Newry, started running 10km each day for 100 days on January 17 to raise money for Davina’s Art Aftercare Addiction Services in Armagh. The challenge marks his fifth year of such fundraisers. He credits the charity with aiding his recovery from alcohol addiction and restoring his family relationships.

Bannon plans to run the London Marathon on April 26 as the challenge concludes. He has collected nearly £600 through a GoFundMe page and street collections. He posts daily updates on social media, including TikTok and Facebook.

The recovering alcoholic described how alcohol addiction affected his family, job, and mental health. He said his wife contacted Davina’s Ark during his crisis. The service provided support for him and counselling for his family.

Bannon noted that addiction impacts people across social statuses and includes issues like gambling and alcohol. He aims to reduce stigma around addiction and encourage others to seek help.
