A family participating in a litter pick along Altaglushan Road in Cappagh discovered more than half a dozen lamb carcasses dumped illegally. The clean-up was organised by local councillor Kevin McElvogue for the Scouts. Ursula Bradley took part with her husband and seven-year-old son.

The son first spotted remains of a black lamb. Further along the road, they found a white lamb carcass. Bradley's husband checked a bag in a nearby ditch and discovered three or four more lambs inside.

The family then located a shallow grave site covered with a plastic sheet, sand and soil. More lamb remains lay underneath.

Local councillor Kevin McElvogue noted prior similar incidents in the area. A horse carcass appeared in August 2024. A sheep carcass turned up in April 2025. He stated proper disposal facilities exist nearby at Linergy in Granville Industrial Estate.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs confirmed inspectorate staff from the local veterinary office investigated the case. The lambs lacked tags, preventing identification of the keeper. Responsibility for recovery and disposal of fallen livestock falls to the animal owner if known, or the landowner. On public roads, local councils handle it if ownership remains unclear. The department requested information on those responsible be sent to the local veterinary office.
