PSNI Warns North Coast Visitors of Road Risks and Safety Measures
Police in Causeway Coast and Glens expect large numbers of visitors to Portrush and Portstewart over the coming days. Superintendent Yvonne McManus stated that dedicated teams will patrol transport hubs, hospitality venues, residential areas, and beaches to maintain safety.
Road congestion will occur due to high volumes of people. Drivers must allow extra journey time, use official parking, and show patience. The PSNI will coordinate with Translink and local councils for traffic management.
Officers plan checks for road-worthy vehicles and will take a zero-tolerance stance on reckless driving. Superintendent McManus noted awareness of car cruising and diffing on roads. She pointed out that 20 people have died on Northern Ireland roads this year.
Policing will cover the night-time economy with focus on preventing violence against women and girls. Officers will watch public spaces for anti-social behaviour. Visitors should drink responsibly, stay alert to drink spiking, use the Ask for Angela scheme if needed, and arrange safe travel home via Translink or taxis.
Underage drinking draws a warning due to its potential impact on future careers. Superintendent McManus urged enjoyment of the North Coast while promoting safer roads, communities, and socialising.
