A vigil took place in Inishowen for Amy Doherty, a young mother who died. Organisers from Lifeline Inishowen released purple balloons before a minute's silence. Each balloon represented one of 30 women killed across the north of Ireland in the last six years.

Eleanor Lamb, chairperson of Lifeline Inishowen, addressed the gathering. She called for an end to violence against women and girls. Lamb stated that men need to change due to issues with toxic masculinity.

Councillor Joy Beard released a white balloon for local victims of violence. Beard expressed sorrow and shock at Doherty's death. She noted sadness extending from Derry to Inishowen.

Beard stressed that tackling violence against women and girls must remain a priority. She reported nearly 9,000 calls to the Gardai in Donegal over the past five years related to domestic violence. Last year saw 2,000 such calls.

Beard said these incidents occur in Donegal towns, villages, and communities. She emphasised that each call represents a person in fear.

Mary Sadler, founding member of Lifeline Inishowen, said the group provides support to anyone on the peninsula.
