A Ryanair flight from Dublin to Amsterdam aborted take-off after a Belfast man allegedly assaulted a cabin crew member. The incident occurred on Friday during the scheduled 6.25pm departure while the aircraft taxied on the runway.

Christopher Tinsley, 34, from Shankill Road in Belfast, appeared before Judge John Hughes at Dublin District Court on Saturday. He faces a charge of assault causing harm to a male attendant. Tinsley also faces two charges under the Air Navigation and Transport (Amendment) Act, 1998, for onboard disruption.

Garda Ahmed Bilal told the court that Tinsley became disruptive, leading the pilot to return the aircraft from the runway. The departure delayed by about two hours. The victim sustained a visible facial injury and provided a witness statement.

One charge alleges Tinsley was intoxicated to a degree likely to endanger aircraft safety. The second charge states he engaged in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.

Garda Bilal objected to bail due to Tinsley's residence outside the jurisdiction. Defence barrister Kevin McCrave requested bail, noting Tinsley's self-employment as a painter and presumption of innocence.

Judge Hughes granted bail with conditions. Tinsley must lodge €500 of a €1,000 bond, provide a €1,000 surety with half in cash, surrender his passport, avoid Dublin Airport and report weekly to Dundalk Garda Station.

Tinsley has not entered a plea. He remains in custody pending bail compliance and returns to court on Wednesday for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Legal aid was approved.
