Temporary 40mph Speed Limit Imposed on A6 Near Burntollet Bridge for Barrier Repairs
The Department for Infrastructure will enforce a 40mph speed limit on a half-kilometre section of the A6 Glenshane Road starting Monday, March 23, 2026. The restriction applies to Derry-bound traffic from 500 metres southeast of the Ardmore Road junction to 150 metres northwest of it. It remains in place until Monday, June 15, 2026.
A vehicle safety barrier on the Burntollet bridge sustained severe damage in a road traffic accident last month. Northbound access from Ardmore Road onto the A6 has been closed since the incident.
The department cited a hazard on the bridge over the River Faughan as the reason for the limit. Traffic signs will indicate the restriction's nature and extent.
Officials enacted the measure under the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 to allow barrier repairs.
