Charity Drifting Event in Derry to Support Suicide Bereavement Services
Ciaran Kilpatrick, 27, from Drumullan outside Cookstown, plans a charity drifting event on Saturday, April 25, at Troublemakers City Waste drifting site in Derry. The event marks the birthday of his brother Dominic, who died by suicide three years ago at age 27.
Proceeds will fund the Niamh Louise Foundation, which provides bereavement counselling to families affected by suicide. Kilpatrick attended their services after his loss. His family urged him to seek counselling there.
Kilpatrick chose the date because it falls on a Saturday this year. He and Dominic had discussed a parachute jump to raise funds for cancer before Dominic's death. Kilpatrick battles mental health issues himself.
Dominic left behind a seven-year-old daughter, Megan. He worked as a personal trainer and posted videos on TikTok to motivate gym-goers and encourage mental health discussions.
Kilpatrick selected drifting because he recently took it up and has long been a car enthusiast. Dominic preferred fitness. The event aims to give young people a positive activity.
Plans include a raffle, donation buckets in local shops, and T-shirts and hoodies with the semicolon symbol for mental health awareness. Kilpatrick has a semicolon tattoo and will add messages to his drift car. He contacted drifting community figures for promotion.
