Armagh Mother Offers to Pay Vet Bills After Vandalism Hits Disabled Riding School
Vandals damaged fencing at Longstone Riding School for the Disabled in Armagh on March 5, injuring four of the school's five horses. The facility provides therapeutic riding sessions for children with disabilities from local schools.
One horse suffered lameness, all experienced muscle pain, two had leg lacerations and one developed respiratory issues from over-exertion. The school placed the horses on box rest and cancelled all lessons until after Easter.
Rosalind Thompson from Tandragee, whose six-year-old daughter True attends Lisanally Special School, offered to pay the veterinary bills. Lisanally students regularly participate in lessons at the school.
Thompson contacted the riding school through local media to make the offer. She stated that the sessions benefit the children and expressed a desire to help the horses recover quickly for their sake.
Christian Brothers Primary School, which uses the facilities, collected £1,000 through a fundraiser and set up a GoFundMe page. With vet costs covered, remaining funds will support new secure fencing and CCTV installation.
