A riding school for disabled people in Armagh faced disruption after four of its horses escaped when a fence was forced down. The incident took place on the evening of Monday, March 2, at Longstone Riding for the Disabled on Mullinure Lane.

The horses were recovered by the team but found to have serious injuries. All four required immediate box rest. Yard Manager Debbie McKenna described her devastation over the event. The centre cancelled all immediate bookings as a result.

The school operates entirely on voluntary effort. Staff noted a history of anti-social behaviour and vandalism at the site. The recent incident put horse safety at risk and affected services for children who regularly attend.

A fundraising campaign launched to cover veterinary costs and buy CCTV cameras for the grounds. It has raised over £1000 so far. Funds will support extra hay, feed for recovery, shavings for stabling, field safety supplies and fence repairs.

The school aims to resume normal services after the Easter holidays. Team members thanked Deirdre from O’Reilly and Fee veterinary surgery for quick response and care. They also acknowledged the Longstone site maintenance team, volunteers, schools, pupils and public supporters.
