Two Separate Camino Pilgrimages Raise Funds for Evora Hospice in Armagh and Newry
A Middletown woman plans to walk the Camino de Santiago in memory of her mother Mary Monahan. Mary Monahan died at age 79 on February 17, 2024, after a cancer diagnosis in late 2023. She received care at Evora Hospice for just over two weeks before her death.
Conchita Monahan from Middletown organises the pilgrimage as a thank-you to the hospice. Family members raised between £7,000 and £8,000 through bucket collections in Armagh and other efforts. A coffee morning at Curves in Armagh takes place on March 26 to support her fundraising.
In Newry, Callum Magee prepares to walk 120 kilometres from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. He walks in memory of Ferghal Quinn with aunt Michelle Quinn and uncle Conor Quinn. Evora Hospice in Newry provided care to Ferghal Quinn and support to his family.
Callum Magee has cerebral palsy. The Quinn family funds their travel costs separately so all donations go to the hospice. Evora Hospice praised Callum Magee's efforts to aid palliative care in the community.
