Derry Man Charged with Abduction and Assault Near Border
Eamonn McDaid, 33, of Westway in Derry, appeared in court on Wednesday charged with offences from October 1 last year.
Prosecutors charged him with abducting a man, attempting grievous bodily harm with intent, false imprisonment, assault, and administering a noxious substance to the same individual.
Additional charges included possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear, possessing drugs, stealing household items, and trespassing on October 1.
Police linked McDaid to the charges and opposed bail.
On October 1, Gardai found a naked man on back roads near the Derry-Donegal border shouting for help.
The man told Gardai he had been abducted in Derry, stripped, tied up all day, questioned, and sprayed with bleach.
He stated he was forced to take a drug, put into a car, sprayed with bleach again, and told to deliver 2,000 pounds in cash to a location.
CCTV footage connected vehicles to the man's address.
The man named two people as his abductors.
McDaid was arrested on March 10. He gave a prepared statement saying he knew the man and had travelled with him in a vehicle but otherwise made no comment.
Bail was refused due to risk of witness interference. McDaid has 20 prior convictions. District Judge Ted Magill remanded him in custody for reappearance on April 2.
