St Patrick's Day Events Highlight Irish Language Celebrations Across Causeway Coast and Glens
Local organisations, arts centres, community groups and Gaelic clubs in the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area host events for Seachtain na Gaeilge from March 1 to March 17.
The programme features ceilis, traditional music, film screenings, storytelling and town centre activities. A one-day Irish language course took place in Cushendall on February 28. Ballycastle Primary School pupils attended a ceili. Limavady Hen’s Shed held storytelling and music on March 9.
Supported events include a film screening of 'Listen to the Land Speak' at Roe Valley Arts Centre in Limavady on March 12 at 7pm. Tickets cost £5.
On March 14, Drumceatt Square in Limavady hosts music, dancing, film screenings and cultural activities from 12pm to 4pm. Rasharkin Comhaltas and St Mary’s GAC present music, language, dance and refreshments at St Olcan’s Parish Centre at 8pm. Dunloy Comhaltas runs music, singing, arts and refreshments at St Joseph’s Hall from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
St Patrick’s Day events on March 17 feature a ceili with dancing, face painting and music at Kilrea GAC from 10am to 2pm. Portstewart Promenade and Crescent hold dancing by Innova Irish Dance Company, music by Brí Trad group and family activities from 1pm to 4pm.
On March 19, Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart screens the Irish language documentary 'Focla ar Chanbhás' at 7:15pm, followed by a discussion with director Paddy Hayes and music by David Keenan. Tickets cost £8 or £6 concession.
The events receive financial support from the Executive Office via the District Council Good Relations Programme.
