Horse Remains Unremoved in Dungannon Field Two Weeks After Distress Discovery
Rescuers discovered several horses, including a foal, in a field in Dungannon on March 11. The foal, which rescuers named Cookie, was in distress in swamp-like conditions. A local vet euthanised the foal after attempts to save it failed.
Two additional horses were found in the same field. Rescuers stated the mother of the foal had died in the field days earlier. The ground was heavily waterlogged.
More than two weeks later, the remains of the horses have not been removed. My Lovely Horse Rescue shared a statement on social media about the animals suffering for days before discovery.
Mid Ulster District Council holds responsibility for equine enforcement in the area. The council stated that removal of the remains lies with the landowner and that they have engaged with the landowner on arrangements.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland attended the scene and referred the matter to the local council for enforcement. The council noted investigations are ongoing and provided no further comment.
