Infrastructure Minister Michelle O'Neill has directed officials to assess a one-way system on Creggan Heights in Derry. She responded to a query from Foyle MLA Mark H. Durkan.

O'Neill noted that one-way systems often extend travel distances for residents. She added that they can confuse drivers and visitors.

The minister also stated that such systems tend to raise traffic speeds in the direction of travel.

Durkan asked whether the assessment would extend to Central Drive. O'Neill said this would add more traffic to the already crowded parking on Creggan Heights.

Officials would not pursue the Central Drive inclusion without evidence of broad local support, O'Neill indicated.
