PSNI Donates Seized Cash to Derry Drugs Charity HURT
Police in Derry donated £2,460 seized during a drugs investigation to HURT charity. The cash came from a court forfeiture order granted by Londonderry Crown Court.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the Waterside area in October 2024 and seized Class B controlled drugs. A follow-up house search in the city yielded more Class B drugs and cash.
District Support Team Inspector Cathal Pearce stated the judge approved the police application for the forfeiture order. He added the funds would aid vulnerable people needing assistance.
HURT provides support, treatment, and education programmes for young people facing alcohol and drug addiction in Derry, Limavady, and Strabane. The charity also assists family members affected by substance issues across the North West.
Leanne Doherty, HURT's Business Development and Social Enterprise Manager, welcomed the donation. She noted rising demand for services amid funding difficulties and said it allows free access for clients in need.
