A sale of books from the collection of the late Dr Rodney Brown took place on Saturday at his home in 3 Cherryvalley Green in east Belfast. The event raised £1,900 for Crohn's and Colitis UK.

Dr Brown died in October at age 72 after serving as vice-principal of Sullivan Upper School in Holywood. His collection totalled around 10,000 books.

Another sale will occur next Saturday from 2pm to 4pm at the same location, with several thousand books remaining.

Mark Simpson, a BBC presenter and former pupil at Sullivan Upper in the 1980s, attended the sale. He studied history under Dr Brown for O-Level and A-Level. Simpson credited Dr Brown with making history engaging and connecting it to current events. He noted they discussed politics during lessons.

Dr Brown attended Orangefield Secondary School and earned a master's degree from Cambridge University.
