A charity sale of thousands of books collected by the late Dr Rodney Brown takes place this Saturday at his east Belfast home. The event runs from 2pm to 4pm at 3 Cherryvalley Green. All proceeds go to Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

Dr Brown, a former history teacher and vice-principal at Sullivan Upper School in Holywood, died in October aged 72. His brother Paul Brown stated the family organised the sale to find new homes for the books.

The collection totals around 10,000 volumes on topics including Irish history, politics, general literature and crime novels. Dr Brown attended Orangefield Secondary School before earning a masters degree from Cambridge University.
