A 63-year-old man received a £225,000 settlement in a High Court case in Belfast related to abuse claims at St Patrick’s Training School on Glen Road. The school operated under the De La Salle Order in the 1970s.

The man sued the De La Salle Order, the Diocese of Down and Connor, and the Department of Justice. He alleged they failed to protect him during his time at the school, where authorities sent him in 1976 for truancy.

Claims stated a kitchen staff member subjected him to physical assaults, sexual abuse, and emotional violence over two years. His legal team contended the defendants did not supervise children adequately or vet staff properly.

The action included claims of assault, battery, and trespass to the person. Mr Justice O’Hara stayed proceedings against all defendants on agreed terms, with no admissions of liability.

The defendants agreed to cover the man’s legal costs. Claire McKeegan of Phoenix Law, his solicitor, said her client felt relief at the case's resolution.
