Omagh Sites Eyed for New Industrial Park Under Growth Deal
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Invest NI are discussing two sites in Omagh for a new industrial development park. The locations are Ballinamullin and an area near Derry Road. This project forms part of the £250 million Mid-South West Growth Deal, which covers councils in Fermanagh and Omagh, Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon, and Mid Ulster.
Alison McCullagh, chief executive of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, stated that the deal allocates £250 million across the three councils. She noted one project involves developing industrial land on a site ready for business occupation, though completion requires lead time. McCullagh added the focus targets green and renewable energy sectors in line with broader commitments, alongside zoning for various industrial uses.
A council-issued Call for Sites under the Local Development Plan identified demand for land suited to different industrial purposes.
Ethna McNamee, western regional manager of Invest NI in Omagh, said Invest NI has identified the local need for industrial land and investment. She explained that developing such land demands substantial budget and time, which government funding had not previously provided. McNamee affirmed Invest NI's commitment to partnering with the council to secure industrial land.
Barry McElduff, chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, called for priority on acquiring the new industrial land in 2026. He highlighted the Growth Deal funding as a key factor with strong delivery potential.
Plans for the facility arose in last week's meeting on challenges facing Omagh town centre. Current local industrial hubs include Gortrush Industrial Estate and Doogary Industrial Estate on Bankmore Road.
