Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will host a meeting with Invest NI on June 22, with elected members signalling they will demand detailed figures on public investment in the district compared to other parts of Northern Ireland.

The session, arranged by Invest NI’s Western Regional team, is intended to update councillors on the economic development agency's work and priorities for 2026/27. In a letter to members, regional head Ethna McNamee said the meeting would encourage dialogue and that councillors were welcome to raise topics or questions.

Ahead of the meeting, councillors have made clear they will use the opportunity to address long-running concerns that the Fermanagh and Omagh area receives disproportionately low investment. Council chief executive Alison McCullagh urged members to attend, noting the invitation was significant given previous correspondence and the concerns raised about investment levels.

Sinn Féin councillor Sheamus Greene requested that Invest NI supply per capita investment statistics covering the past five years. He recalled a comparison from 12 years earlier that showed the district receiving roughly 25 pence per head in support, while Belfast received £2.50 per head. He said councillors needed current data to assess whether any improvement had occurred. The request was seconded by DUP councillor Shirley Hawkes.

McCullagh confirmed that the data could be obtained, though possibly not in a per capita format, and said the request would be made before the June meeting.
