Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has invested more than £1.6 million in upgrading children's playparks across the district over the past decade, with further spending now planned for the 2026-27 financial year.

The council's playpark strategy has focused on enhancing safety, accessibility, and opportunities for unstructured outdoor play. A total of 17 sites have been improved under the programme.

Omagh town received the largest share, with £814,000 allocated. Key sites include the Destination Playpark at the Grange, as well as facilities in Gortview, Lisanelly, Strathroy, Gortrush, Mullaghmore, and Hunters Crescent.

In the Mid Tyrone area, £359,000 funded upgrades at Fox Park and Loughmacrory, the Gortin Glens, Cappagh Villas, Knockmoyle Drive, Meetinghouse Road in Sixmilecross, and Springwell Drive in Beragh.

West Tyrone saw £281,000 spent on improvements at Newtownsaville and facilities in Denamona, Mill Street, Ashfield Gardens, and Ecclesville in Fintona.

The next phase of work will target four further playparks. Riverside Walk in Dromore is earmarked for £343,000, while Buchanan Villas will receive £187,000. Cannondale in Omagh has been allocated £104,000, and Gortmore will benefit from £107,000.

Additional green-space transformation projects are planned for Dergmoney Playpark in Omagh, McIvor Villas in Killyclogher, and Gleannan Park in Drumnakilly.

Sinn Féin councillor Ruairí Lyttle welcomed the investment, noting that communities have responded positively. He said the refurbished playparks are promoting health and wellbeing, with particular excitement in Gortin where residents had long awaited the upgrades.
