Christopher Ferris from west Belfast volunteered in South Africa this February to help construct a new home for a local family. The effort honoured his sister Chloe Ferris, who had supported the same family through a cross-community youth group based on Shankill Road.

Chloe Ferris, 24, died suddenly at Lux nightclub in Belfast on December 1, 2024. A beautician originally from west Belfast, she participated in R-City, a programme involving members from Ardoyne and Shankill areas. The group travels to Blanco, a suburb of George in South Africa, to assist residents using skills developed locally.

During a 2019 trip, Chloe Ferris formed a bond with a girl named Keesha and sent her money along with school supplies and uniforms. The family's tin hut home burned down months before Chloe's death due to an electrical fault in a neighbouring structure, leaving them with nothing.

Christopher Ferris ran the Belfast Marathon last year and collected £15,000 for R-City. He directed funds to build the new home after learning of the fire. The family had been staying with relatives in overcrowded conditions with limited facilities.

Christopher Ferris stated the family showed strong appreciation for the assistance. He plans to maintain support by sending school uniforms and supplies, as lack of uniform prevents school attendance there. He described Chloe Ferris as exceptionally caring with her own beauty business.
