Family Friend Runs Belfast Marathon for Markethill Man's Cancer Charities
Kristin Jameson plans to run the Belfast Marathon on May 3 to raise funds for the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital and Amy’s House in memory of Alex Ruddy from Markethill.
Alex Ruddy died in September at age 20 after osteosarcoma treatment. His illness began with a fractured leg during airsoft that revealed a tumour in his femur. He received eight months of chemotherapy and temporary clearance before the cancer returned.
The Cancer Centre provided treatment guidance to Alex Ruddy. Amy’s House, run by Young Lives vs Cancer, allowed his family to stay nearby during care.
Keith and Gillian Ruddy, Alex's parents, approved the fundraising. Jameson set up a JustGiving page for donations.
Jameson lives near the Ruddy family in Markethill. She recalls Alex Ruddy waving on school walks and chatting when he worked locally.
Jameson started running recently and trained for a half-marathon while thinking of Ruddy during his illness. She extended training for the full marathon.
Donations have reached £2,110, exceeding the initial £1,000 target twice.
