Professionals Attend Youth Worker Wellbeing Conference in Craigavon
More than 100 professionals including youth workers, teachers, community representatives and volunteers attended the All About YOUth conference at Craigavon Conference and Civic Centre. The event took place in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough.
Lord Mayor Alderman Stephen Moutray told attendees that children and young people require solid support systems in a changing environment. He noted challenges including mental health, online safety, inclusion and community protection. Moutray added that professionals need to maintain their health to handle these matters.
Dr Martin McMullan, chief executive of Youth Action, gave the keynote address. The Sunshine Project ran a session on laughter yoga. Workshops addressed mindfulness, self-care and issues in youth support work.
Attendees joined discussions to form partnerships and adapt services to young people's requirements in the borough.
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, the Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership and the Education Authority organised the conference. Funding came from the Executive Office District Council Good Relations Fund.
Such events align with Northern Ireland councils' roles in youth strategies through partnerships with education bodies to address pressures on child services.
