Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council held an event titled 'We See You' to provide support and information for parent-carers.

The event took place in the borough and featured practical advice sessions along with opportunities for families to connect.

Local broadcaster Paul Clark MBE hosted the programme.

Mayor Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick addressed attendees and spoke about her experience as a parent-carer of autistic children.

She stated that parents and carers of disabled children and those with additional or complex needs play an invaluable role in the community.

Kirkpatrick said the council is committed to building an inclusive borough and that the event offered practical information and emotional support.

Other speakers included Sasha Gillespie, Law Lecturer at Ulster University; Susan Walls from Contact Northern Ireland; Alma White from Caleb's Cause; and Adenike Yisa, a parent of children with special needs.

Clark also shared his experience caring for his son who has Down's syndrome.

Discussions focused on helping carers access support and navigate challenges.
