Omagh Raises £29,000 for Cancer Research UK in Past Year
Residents of Omagh and surrounding areas in Tyrone raised £29,000 for Cancer Research UK between February 2025 and January 2026. The total came from multiple local events organised by the Omagh committee.
A celebration and information evening at the Silverbirch Hotel marked the achievement. Volunteers, donors and supporters attended the gathering.
Key events included the Alwyn Maxwell Sunflower fundraiser, which collected £2,220. Marian’s Spinathon brought in £2,820. Ivy’s Coffee Morning generated £3,430.
Yvonne Allen, chair of the Omagh committee, stated plans for a Colour Me Beautiful event in September or October. The committee has operated since November 1987 and consists of nine members. Vena Jameson noted the group seeks additional volunteers to sustain fundraising.
Phillip Faithful, owner of The Abingdon Collection museum near the Ulster American Folk Park, directs all visitor donations to the charity. Since 2006, the museum has contributed over £40,000, averaging £3,000 annually. Visitors from locations including America and Australia donate.
Rotary Club of Omagh members presented a £1,200 cheque at the event. The sum came from their 70th Charter Dinner. Ronald Oldcroft, club president, said Cancer Research UK served as the district governor's nominated charity across Northern Ireland.
