Omagh Cancer Support Charity Opens Refurbished Centre with New Therapy Rooms
Care for Cancer, a charity that has served the Omagh area for 38 years, held an open day to showcase its refurbished centre located in Campsie. The event, described by chairperson PJ McAleer as well-attended, allowed visitors to tour upgraded facilities that include a larger multifunction room designed for courses, talks and community activities.
Two new rooms on the upper floor now offer space for reflexology and counselling, complementing existing services such as a specialist bra-fitting service. The charity said the improvements create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for people affected by cancer within a 26-mile radius of Omagh.
The open day also celebrated the group receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, which honours the dedication of volunteers who have supported local families facing cancer for nearly four decades. Mr McAleer said the aim was to welcome both former and new clients and to raise awareness of the support available. He noted that the turnout included a mix of familiar faces and first-time visitors.
The charity relies on volunteers and has expanded its capacity to help those diagnosed with cancer and their families across the region. The upgraded centre is now fully operational, offering additional private spaces for complementary therapies and one-to-one support.
