A self-defence workshop for women is set to take place in Lisnaskea on Friday, November 13, from 6pm to 9pm at the Fermanagh Ju Jitsu gym.

Lyle Gawley, a seventh-degree black belt in Japanese and traditional Ju Jitsu who also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, will lead the session. He has been teaching martial arts since 2004 and previously worked as a door supervisor for 12 years.

The workshop will cover practical techniques including basic strikes, defending against strikes, escaping common grabs, and dealing with attacks on the ground. Participants will also learn about stance, distance control, situational awareness, and the law surrounding self-defence.

Organisers say the focus will be on straightforward techniques and the core aim of getting home safely. The event is open to women of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

A small number of spaces remain available for booking.
