Karate athletes from Ards, Bangor and Holywood win medals at South-East Open Championships
Four athletes from Mizukara Karate Clubs in Ards, Bangor and Holywood won six medals at the WUKF South-East Karate Open Championships held at the SET Arena in Waterford.
Amy Adair, the current world wado-ryu kata champion, earned a silver medal in Ippon Kumite and bronze medals in Sanbon Kumite and individual kata.
Kath Stevenson won a silver medal in Ippon Kumite and a bronze in Sanbon Kumite, both in sparring events.
Rachel Benson won her first individual fighting medal in the Ippon Kumite event, securing it with a two-point kick to her opponent's head area. Her sister Megan Benson competed but did not win a medal.
Coach David Brashaw said the achievements of top athletes like Amy Adair continue to inspire lower grades. He praised Kath Stevenson and Rachel Benson for their commitment and progress towards international selection.
