Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information on the 19th anniversary of the murder of Paul Quinn, a 21-year-old from Cullyhanna, Co Armagh.

Mr Quinn was beaten to death on 20 October 2007 in a shed at Tullyvanus, near Castleblayney, Co Monaghan. He had travelled there with a friend at around 6pm that evening. On arrival, they were attacked by a gang of eight to ten masked men, some armed with weapons. The men tied them up, and Mr Quinn was subjected to what gardaí described as a violent and sustained attack.

The gang fled in a white van which has never been recovered. Gardaí are seeking information to identify and locate the vehicle.

Detective Superintendent Ronan Carey, leading the investigation from Castleblayney, thanked the community for assistance following an appeal two years ago. He said that appeal had yielded new and valuable lines of inquiry, with significant help from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

Det Supt Carey appealed directly to those who were in the shed, and to their friends or family members who know what happened. He noted that relationships may have changed over time and urged anyone who was afraid to speak to police in the past to come forward now to gardaí or the PSNI.

He said solving the murder is an utmost priority and that he anticipates further arrests. So far, 23 people have been arrested: 14 by An Garda Síochána and nine by the PSNI.

The investigation is led by gardaí in Castleblayney in cooperation with the PSNI on both sides of the border. Mr Quinn's parents, Breege and Stephen Quinn, continue to suffer the loss of their son and are regularly updated on developments.
