Police have issued a renewed appeal for information on the murder of journalist Lyra McKee, with Crimestoppers offering a reward of up to £20,000 for details leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Ms McKee, 29, was shot dead on 18 April 2019 while observing disturbances in the Creggan area of Derry. The New IRA, a dissident republican paramilitary group, claimed responsibility for the killing.

Earlier this year, three men from Derry were found not guilty of her murder after a trial. No one has been charged with firing the fatal shot. Following the verdict, Ms McKee’s sister Nichola Corner called for an end to the “culture of silence” she said prevented people from coming forward with information.

Detective Chief Inspector Hazel Miller of the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team said the force’s commitment to securing justice has not lessened. She stated that detectives had worked tirelessly for more than seven years to hold those accountable.

Detective Chief Inspector Miller said police are particularly seeking information on the gunman. She acknowledged that some people may have been reluctant or afraid to speak in the past, but noted that circumstances and allegiances can change.
