Ballynure named Northern Ireland's best kept community as Antrim area scores hat-trick
Ballynure, a village in County Antrim, has been named Northern Ireland's overall 'Best of the Best' in the 2026 Best Kept Awards, organised by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council. The announcement was made at a ceremony at the Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen on 14 October 2026.
In addition to Ballynure's top honour, Antrim retained its title of Best Kept Large Town for the second consecutive year, and Randalstown won Best Kept Small Town. The achievements mark a hat-trick of successes for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.
The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Henry Cushinan, said the awards reflect the pride, dedication and community spirit of residents and volunteers who work to make places cleaner, greener and more welcoming.
The Best Kept campaign, now in its 69th year, recognises communities that demonstrate commitment to environmental improvement, sustainability, biodiversity and civic pride. NIAC Chairman Doreen Muskett MBE said Ballynure's volunteer contribution is exemplary and the envy of many community groups.
Joe Mahon, Patron of the Northern Ireland Amenity Council, spoke at the event, congratulating all winners for giving up their time to serve their communities.
Awards were presented across categories including Best Kept Cities, Towns and Villages, Best Kept Housing Areas and Best Kept Community Hero. More than 100 representatives from across Northern Ireland attended.
