Mid Ulster District Council is encouraging residents to donate unwanted Halloween costumes and Christmas jumpers for reuse through free swap shops. Donations can be made at council recycling centres until specific dates in October and November.

Donated Halloween costumes will be available at a swap shop on Saturday, 24 October 2026, at Mid Ulster Sports Arena, as part of the council's Halloween event. Christmas jumpers will be offered at a swap shop on Saturday, 28 November 2026, at Ranfurly House in Dungannon, during the town's Christmas lights switch-on.

The initiative aims to reduce waste and help households save money. Council Chair Councillor Deirdre Varsani noted that Halloween costumes and Christmas jumpers are an extra expense for families at an already costly time of year, and that reusing clothing can benefit both the environment and household budgets.

Residents are asked to donate items that are clean and wearable. The council highlights that extending the life of clothing supports a more circular approach to consumption.
