A proposal to add a fireworks display to Dungannon's Christmas programme has been put forward by a local councillor.

At a meeting of Mid Ulster District Council's Development committee on 9 July, Councillor Dominic Molloy (Sinn Féin, Dungannon DEA) asked officers to explore the possibility and identify funding sources.

Molloy said town centre traders had requested fireworks as part of the Christmas pageant displays. He noted that Council Chair Deirdre Varsani had already been in contact with some alternative funding streams that could be considered.

Assistant Director of Economic Development, Tourism and Strategic Programmes Fiona McKeown confirmed that the council would examine any available funding avenues for the fireworks.

During the same meeting, Councillor Malachy Quinn (SDLP, Torrent DEA) raised the matter of the Tyrone Farmers' Food and Craft Market, which operates fortnightly in the Tesco car park in Dungannon. Quinn said the market organisers had contacted him seeking assistance from the council, either through funding or other support.

McKeown responded that council staff would engage with the market traders to understand their specific issues.
