Bangor Rugby Club's seconds returned to winning ways with a 60-19 victory over Dungannon II in the opening round of the Junior Cup at Stevenson Park on Saturday.

Despite missing Mike Weir and Patrick Dobie through injury, Bangor produced a strong performance. Marty Withers opened the scoring, with Ali McIvor and Adam Lowry each adding two tries. Danny Young scored twice and Connor McKee added another as Bangor pulled away in the second half.

Bangor led 27-14 at the break, with Rhys Larmour converting two of the tries. Dungannon scored three tries but could not match Bangor's pace.

The result was a response to a heavy defeat to Dromore the previous week. Bangor now prepare to face Limavady in the league next Saturday.

In hockey, Bangor II began their Junior League 1 Cup campaign with an 8-2 win over Mossley II at home.

The team included experienced players and several new young talents. Burgess, Cunningham and Toogood each scored twice, with Lynas and Small adding one apiece. Bangor controlled the game from the start, pressing high and creating chances.

In football, Bangor lost 3-1 to Limavady United in the Premiership on Tuesday night. Limavady's Jamie McGonigle scored a hat-trick inside the first 23 minutes.

Tiarnan Mulvenna pulled one back for Bangor in the second half, but the damage had been done. Bangor manager Lee Feeney described the first-half performance as shocking and unacceptable, highlighting individual errors.

Bangor are next in action against Portadown at Clandeboye Park on Saturday.

In golf, Bangor's under-18 boys won the Peter O'Hara Trophy and Ulster Pennant, defeating Royal Belfast in the final at Blackwood & Mahee. The victory capped an undefeated campaign.

Bangor's ladies Mary McKenna team competed at the All-Ireland finals, losing in the semi-final to Cahir Park but winning the third-place playoff against Kilmashogue.
