A new multi sports hub has been opened in Mid Ulster following a £3.6 million investment.

The facility, built at an existing sports arena, was funded through Mid Ulster District Council's Capital Investment Programme (£2.4m) and Sport NI's National Lottery Multi Facility Fund (£1.2m). It was officially opened on Wednesday by Council Chair Councillor Deirdre Varsani and Sport NI Vice Chair Stephen Reid.

The hub includes an eight-lane athletics track, a 3G synthetic pitch, a ballwall, a walking trail, floodlighting, new fencing and supporting infrastructure. The project was designed by Mid Ulster-based McGurk Architects and delivered by contractor Tony Patterson Sportsground.

The council worked alongside Sport NI, Disability Sport Northern Ireland and the Mid Ulster Disability Forum to ensure the design followed Inclusive Sports Facility Guidelines, creating an accessible environment for all users.

A speaker at the opening, Mr Buchanan, said the investment reflected a commitment to supporting sport, health and community wellbeing. He added that the hub would provide modern, accessible spaces for clubs, athletes, families and community groups, creating more opportunities for local participation and talent development.

The new facility complements the arena's existing infrastructure and is intended to serve athletics, football and wider community use.
