Council approves pre-application notice for Glenavy shared sports hub
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has approved a pre-application notice for a new cross-community sports and recreation hub in Glenavy.
The Ballypitmave Community Development is a partnership between Crewe United Football Club and Loch Mór dal gCais Hurling Club. The long-term project aims to provide improved sporting, recreational and well-being facilities, as well as spaces that can be used by people of all ages and backgrounds.
In a social media post, the applicant said the scheme would address identified community needs and create opportunities for greater participation in sport and recreation while supporting health and well-being.
Councillor Pat Catney welcomed the cooperation between the two sporting bodies and said he looked forward to the public consultation stage.
Councillor Gary McCleave described the project as a unique partnership that would deliver a shared, inclusive and sustainable community hub. He noted the rapid progress made since the initial meetings a few years ago.
The pre-application notice is an early step in the planning process. Full details of the proposed development will be submitted at a later date.
