An Irish-medium primary school in West Belfast has marked what it describes as its most successful sporting year.

Bunscoil Phobal Feirste held a celebration at the Balmoral Hotel to recognise achievements across Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, and indoor football.

Among the silverware collected was a clean sweep of Belfast and Antrim Gaelic football titles, including the Cathedral Cup, Raffo Cup, and Liam Murray Cup. The team also secured the Ulster Gaelscoileanna Corn Gael-Linn and indoor honours at both city and county level.

The school added several hurling trophies, notably the Antrim Championship Glens of Antrim Trophy, the Ulster Championship Pat Trainor Cup, and the Fearghal McCaughan Cup after defeating St Patrick's Loughgiel in the Division One final. Its camogie squads won the Division One league Callan Cup, the Division One Championship Primate's Cup, and the Division Two Championship.

A panel discussion at the event included former pupil and Junior Minister Aisling Reilly, Antrim Ladies footballer Dúana Coleman, and former Antrim hurler Brendan Quinn. Comedian Paddy McDonnell chaired the conversation, which focused on the role of sport, education, and the Irish language in young people's lives.

Ms Reilly, a world handball champion, congratulated every pupil who played for the school and praised the teachers, coaches, parents, and volunteers. She noted that the season's results reflected hard work and teamwork, and that the school's commitment to Irish-medium education runs alongside its sporting excellence.
