A summer education programme featuring a new poetry initiative for young people has been launched at the Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy, County Londonderry.

The programme, running throughout July and August, includes drop-in arts and crafts sessions, free indoor play areas, and seaside-themed design workshops. Specialist events range from a storytelling and illustration session with children's author Paul Howard to a podcasting camp for teenagers run by WheelWorks.

A five-day drama programme, Backstage Pass, will be led by Ciara McGeown of CMAC Creative Arts and Wellbeing, while a Cinemagic special effects make-up workshop will be delivered by Connie McGrath.

Marking the centre's tenth anniversary, the Summer Poetry Lab will invite young writers to study the work of Seamus Heaney through reading, discussion and creative writing. Niamh McNally, poet and educational facilitator at HomePlace, said the lab is designed to help young people experiment with language and develop confidence in their own voices.

Sarah Cullen, Education Officer, stated that the programme aims to inspire confidence and bring people together through creativity.

Outdoor activities include Strand Strollers, a buggy walk for parents and carers, and Senior Strolls for older adults, both taking place at The Strand at Lough Beg.

Advance booking is required for all activities. Full details, including dates and costs, are available on the Seamus Heaney HomePlace website.
