Two school principals in Limavady are stepping down at the end of this term.

Marshall Kilgore MBE is leaving Drumachose Primary School after more than 25 years as principal and over 35 years in primary education. Nicola Madden is retiring as head of Limavady Grammar School after a decade in the role.

DUP MLA Alan Robinson paid tribute to both at Stormont on Monday. He noted Kilgore began teaching in 1989 at Londonderry Model Primary School, later served as teaching principal at Donemana Primary School in Strabane, and then became principal of Drumachose. Kilgore is also known for his work as a television match official in rugby's Six Nations championship.

Madden started her career as head of geography at Dunluce School in Bushmills before joining Dalriada School in 1998 as a geography teacher. She was involved in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme and coached junior hockey teams.

Robinson said both had been a steady presence for generations of children and trusted colleagues to their staff. He added they left an enduring legacy, maintaining high academic standards while putting pastoral care at the heart of their schools.
