Queen’s University Belfast Achieves Highest Global Ranking
Queen’s University Belfast has secured its highest ever position in the QS World University Rankings 2027, placing 174th out of more than 1,500 institutions globally. This places the university among the top 11.6 percent worldwide. Within the United Kingdom, Queen’s ranks 26th.
The result was driven in part by a significant rise in the Employer Reputation indicator, where the university climbed 83 places. Vice-chancellor Professor Sir Ian Greer noted that the ranking reflected the commitment of staff and students to excellence in education, research, and civic engagement. He highlighted the institution’s success in producing graduates ready for the workforce.
Data accompanying the rankings show that 93 percent of Queen’s graduates enter employment or further study within 15 months of completing their degrees. The university holds the top position within the Russell Group for graduate employability and further study rates.
Marie Doyle, senior partner at Deloitte in Northern Ireland and a Queen’s alumna, said the university generates £3.35 billion for the UK economy each year and plays a key role in local innovation and job creation.
Separate domestic league tables further underline the university’s performance. The Complete University Guide 2027 placed Queen’s 23rd in the UK, with number-one subject rankings for Agriculture and Forestry and for Social Work. A total of 14 subjects were ranked in the UK top 10. The same guide placed Queen’s ninth for Graduate Prospects (On Track) and 11th for Graduate Prospects (Outcomes).
Additionally, Queen’s was recently named University of the Year at the WhatUni awards, where its Students’ Union was also voted number one. Both accolades are based solely on student feedback.
