A 21-year-old Enniskillen man has been committed for trial at the Crown Court on multiple charges including rape and false imprisonment.

Alioune Sow, of Belmore Street, faces seven counts of rape, as well as single charges of false imprisonment, assault causing actual bodily harm, wounding, theft, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon with intent. The alleged offences date to 11 May.

At a preliminary enquiry at Omagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, the Public Prosecution Service indicated there was a case to answer. Sow offered no response to the charges and submitted no written evidence. District Judge Conor Heaney remanded him in custody and set his arraignment for 2 July at Dungannon Crown Court.

Sow has been held in Hydebank since his arrest following an incident on Belmore Street. Police were called to a disturbance at an accommodation centre, where a resident reported a man attempting to force entry with a fire extinguisher. Officers located a man with facial injuries who alleged he had been assaulted, threatened with a knife and raped over several hours.

Sow was arrested and gave a no-comment interview. Knives suspected to have been used were recovered by police.
