Enniskillen Man Remanded on Domestic Assault Charges After Sending Attack Video
Brandon Gillen, 26, from Creamery Close in Enniskillen, faces charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and engaging in threatening or abusive behaviour, both aggravated by domestic abuse. The charges stem from an incident on May 1 in the Letterbreen area of Enniskillen.
Police responded to a report after the woman's son received a video via Snapchat showing Gillen drag her to the floor and kick her repeatedly in the head. She sustained injuries to both eyes consistent with kicks and called out his name during the assault.
Officers had visited the property hours earlier for an unrelated matter and found only Gillen and the woman present with no injuries at that time. During police interview, Gillen initially gave no comment responses but later admitted the assault due to intoxication and confirmed sending the video.
A police officer informed Dungannon Magistrates Court of Gillen's 61 prior convictions, including 11 for assaulting police, 11 for assault, four for breaching court orders, 13 for criminal damage and two for threatening behaviour. The officer noted a history of domestic abuse involving his mother, previous partners and current partner, plus addiction issues.
The officer objected to bail citing risks of further offending and concerns for the woman's safety. Defence sought bail with conditions, noting no complaint statement from the woman yet and evidence limited to the video.
District Judge Conor Heaney refused bail, stating the court could not manage risks from Gillen's record including domestic abuse and bail breaches. Gillen is due to appear via video link at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on June 1.
