A special International Mass will be celebrated at St Peter’s Church in Lurgan this Sunday at noon. Archbishop Eamon Martin will lead the liturgy, which aims to reflect the multinational character of the parish.

The event follows a similar Mass held last year and has been in planning for several months. The parish includes worshippers from Poland, East Timor, India, several African nations, and Ireland.

Representatives of various nationalities will process in traditional costumes alongside Irish dancers. A number of choirs are scheduled to perform during the service.

Parish priest Fr Colum Wright said the Mass is open to everyone and is intended to celebrate the diversity of the town. Fr Murphy, a member of the clergy team, said communities have been asked to bring their own cultural contributions to the occasion.

Those attending are encouraged to wear their national dress and to sign a welcome sheet at the back of the church in their native language.

After the Mass, light refreshments featuring international dishes will be served in the parish hall. Anyone bringing food is asked to leave it at the hall before the service begins.
